Why should you learn at Clacton?

A Choice Of Aircraft Types
With three different types of aircraft, Cessna 152/172 and Super Cub, you have a wide choice of types to learn in. Furthermore, if you learn in a tailwheel, you will automatically be checked out on the Cessna 152 as some of the syllabus i.e.: instrument training, has to be carried out in the Cessna. We like you to be proficient to solo the Cessnas as well as the Super Cub.
It's Our Own Airfield
We operate from our own airfield, so there is no vying with other clubs or commercial traffic and so no expensive delays on the ground......we can get the real priority of teaching you how to fly, rather that waiting at the hold.
Unrestricted Airspace
Unlike many clubs, we have the advantage of being situated in an area of unrestricted airspace up to 5,500 feet. This is an especially rare feature in the South East and enables us to teach all of the upper air exercise without having to waste time flying far from the airfield.
Master A Small Grass Strip
Having gained your licence from a smaller grass airfield, long, wide concrete runways will present you with no difficulties in the future. The reverse, however, for those having learnt at larger airfields, is not true. Thus, being a more proficient and versatile pilot, will open up the opportunity to visit any airfield, large or small and some of the many farm strips around the country.
We Have Your Own VOR
The Clacton VOR/DME is just 4.5 miles north of the field. Apart from the obvious benefit of navigation back to the airfield in bad weather, it is particularly useful for pilots on their IMC course. Practice VOR tracking holds and simulated VOR, DME approaches can be made without having to fly to other airfields which can be an added expense to your IMC rating.
Enthusiastic Instructors

The most important part in any pilot's training is the relationship with their instructor. Without exception our five instructors are flying and instructing because they enjoy it - not because they are building hours for their own benefit. They have necessary dedication to true flying and are ideally suited to install confidence and impart knowledge.

Our instruction is on a friendly one-to-one basis where a great deal of support and encourage comes from fellow students and club members. This atmosphere is far removed from the "gold braid brigade" attitude put forward by many other clubs.

At Clacton we have 2 examiners so there is little delay for flight tests and ground exams can be set when each student is individually prepared.

Value For Money

Not only are our flying rates very competitive, but the following are included in the quoted prices:

V.A.T, all landing fees at Clacton, local accommodation, (residential PPL and tailwheel courses), and because we never have any ground delays, each lesson is a full hour. We honestly believe you would have to search far and wide to get better value for your money.

Once you have completed your PPL do not think that it is all behind you! As well as enjoying the experience of flying for fun, why not set yourself another challenge:- an IMC rating is an interesting and useful addition to your license, and for those who learnt in our Cessnas, why not try a tailwheel conversion or an excursion into some interesting private strips on our Farm Strip Special.....just ask for details.
