The Cessna 150, 152 and 172

Since the early sixties the Cessna model 150, and its later derivative the 152, has been the world's most popular single-engine trainer. Countless thousands of the 150 series are flying througout the world for the specific role of ab-initio training, and for those of you who choose th learn in a nosewheel type, this is without a doubt the best choice. Unlike the Super Cub, the Cessna is of all metal construction, and seating is side by side. The 150 and 152 models are two seat trainers, with the model 172 being a four seat tourer. Your pre-flight check is simple with only a few items to run through.

Inside the 150/152 you will find comfortable seating, and, unlike the Super Cub, a door for each pilot makes entry and exit a simple exercise, as is starting the engine after first havingcompleted your pre-start checks. Taxiing the Cessna models is a simple matter of steering with rubber pedals, and occaisionally using the independent toe brakes. Unlike the Super Cub, you have a clear view ahead and all around, which means taxiing in a straight line rather than weaving from side to side. On completion of pre-flight and power checks and having lined up the runway, the take-off is a straight forward matter which requires only a few attempts before you will be able to do it unaided In the air, the Cessna is a very syable aircraft requiring only small movements on the control wheel (yoke) to effect turns. With your instructor sitting next to you he can instill the required level of confidence and perhaps help the more nervous student to relax more easily. Landing, although not an initially easy phase to grasp, is not particularly difficult in the Cessna, and like taking off, a few practice attempts will soon lead to passable, and later, perfect touchdowns.

If you are considering IMC rating, youe flying would be conducted in the 152 and 172, as would the navigational and instrument appreciation part of he syllabus for those students wishing to do their PPL on our "taildraggers".
